PartArt4OW SailingLab

As core part of the Horizon Europe project PartArt4OW. Participatory Art For Society Engagement with Ocean and Water a 40 days Sailing Lab operationalised in june and july 2026. It is a fully equipped sailing boat dedicated to ecosystem-building, dissemination, research, and visual documentation. Cruising the north-west Mediterranean shores for approximately one month in Summer 2026 , it will document Participatory Art Initiatives (PAIs), host exchanges in selected harbours, and conduct interviews and research on ocean–society relationships. The Sailing Lab will connect artists, scientists, civic society actors, and local communities working at the intersection of participatory art, science, and ocean sustainability. The Sailing Lab will reach the PartArt4OW Demo Day in Badalona (Barcelona) by the end of July 2026 . Institutions, researchers, artists, media representatives, and local actors interested in connecting with the Sailing Lab while in harbour are warmly invited to get in touch. PartArt4OW is a Horizon Europe Mission Ocean project, endorsed by the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science, supporting sustainable ocean and water governance through participatory art and creative processes .

To bootstrap the visibility, communicative and change-making capacity of the PAIs, the project the operationalize the first EU-supported SailingLabation of ParArt Sailing Lab to make the visit and connect creative, transformative and water-engeaged communities in Europe.engaged in PAIs.

The Sailing Lab is a fully equipped sailing boat dedicated to ecosystem-building, dissemination, research, and visual documentation. Cruising the north-west Mediterranean shores for approximately one month in Summer 2026, it will document the work of PAIs, host dialogies, events and exhibitions with European citizens; and make evident the relevance of SSHA for marine research and sustainabile transformation through strenghtening the ocean–society relationships.

The SailingLab activity is connecting together european communities working on creativity for the Ocean, gathered in the PartArt4OW Ecosystem and discoverable on the FirstLife map, a dynamic map of community actions in Europe which combine art, science and participation for the ocean and waters.

The PartArt4OW SailingLab activity is organised by Sapienza University of Rome – MEMOTEF Dep. in collaboration with the Altura society under the scientific-artistic coordination of Raw-News Visual Production Agency on behalf of PartArt4OW consortium of partners and with the technical training support of Centro Addestramento Soccorso e Sopravvivenza.

Where the SailingLab concept come from

The SailingLab concept has been elaborated by the CO>SEA team since the first oceanic pollution investigation project in 2023 and has been variously operationalised in the team activities. In this effort the University of Turin – ESOMAS Dep., the Sapienza University of Rome have been collaborating with international researchers and professionals and with the society Raw-News Visual Production Agency. The cross-fertilisation with international scholars has been crucial, some of which are visible in the description of Sailing4Research and the Sciece+Art+Participation in/about the Ocean informal exchange groups.
