On the 31st of January 2026, CO>SEA team including Chiara Certomà and Giorgio Garofani (Sapienza MEMOTEF) + Federico Fornaro and Giuseppe Lupinacci (Raw-News Visual Production Agency) visited Fiumicino – Isola Sacra area (Rome, Italy) as part of th small research project “BLUE_HN European Harbour Neighbourhoods between political resistance and socio-cultural revitalisation practices for blue transition” (Sapienza Small Project 2025).
We interviewed local activitists of the Tavoli del Porto (David), No Porto (Lorenzo and Mariagrazia), Comitato FuoriPISTA (Antonio) during transect walks, documented the interventions (notably the wall impeding access from routes to the water) in the public shores operated by the private companies Fiumicino Waterfront; and discussed the state of the project for the creation of a massive touristic and cruise port in the area, the multiple criticalities, the impact on local area and communities.
